INFO
Lennie Lee began as a painter. He has worked with various media including
posters, prints, performance, video and installation. He used to work
with discarded material in disused spaces where he became fascinated by
the power of certain objects to disgust, shock, outrage.
Some of his best work involves live or recorded performances on themes
such as madness, incest, suicide, death. His performances incorporate
large installations. They range from eating raw meat to confronting issues
about sex, politics and religion.
He explores areas that are taboo, confronting people with their hidden
assumptions in the hope that they will be released from fear. He uses
dead matter such as blood and vomit, which remind people of their own
mortality.
He deals with sickness, personal shame, fear, prejudice and terrorism.
He touches the boundaries of morality, taste, religion, political shame,
and what might be termed "Unpopular Culture".
